FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your Role: The Facilities Electrician Intern will perform the installation, maintenance and repair of a variety of electrical equipment; perform heavy, physical work and operate a variety of hand and power tools; perform related work as assigned.
Job responsibilities:
Under the direction of a Journeyman or Master Electrician the individual will:
- Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment
- Follows electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications
- Uses hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment
- Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment
- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment
- Replaces damaged or broken wires and cables
- Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance staff
- Assist with plan and layout of wiring with Engineering Department
- Program, calibrate and configure Digital Temperature Controllers
- Troubleshoot and repair SCR power controllers
- Document daily work accountabilities and parts usage
- Participate in Lean activities
- Maintain all housekeeping items and follow all housekeeping procedures
- Follows all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment
- Communicates effectively with all members of the organization
What we need from you:
- High School Diploma
- Maine Electrical Helper's License
- Six months to one-year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to trouble shoot faulty electronic components and systems
- Ability to work independently
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and electrical safety
- Available for rotation of call-in coverage schedule
Preferred:
- Previous experience with wiring and troubleshooting control panels, electric motors, or electrical ovens
