FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 


Your role: FMI is seeking an Associate Manufacturing Supervisor for our Densification team! As Associate Supervisor for densification, you will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision for densification operators with the support of Production Supervisors and Production Manager. This role is ideal for a developing leader looking for opportunities to build their leadership and people management skills within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work directly with the Manufacturing Supervisor(s) on shift to learn how to direct overall activities of the manufacturing area, optimize resources and maximize operations and contribute to business profitability. This will also include coverage for Production Supervisors in their absence to ensure shift stability and seamless execution of responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with Production Supervisor(s) to supervise densification department including but not limited to: determination of work schedules, overtime needs, operator training/re-training and resource allocation based on current staffing
  • Learns to execute production schedule as defined by production planning
  • Learns to support schedule compliance, lead, and cycle times
  • Supports administration of the HSEP (Health, Safety and Environmental Program) for the department – learns to respond to safety incidences and associated root cause and corrective actions follow up
  • Supports administration of company Quality Program and system requirements for AS9100 Certification including but not limited to quality documentation and parts processing
  • Act as a coach and leader with team members including soliciting feedback and serving as a liaison with the Production Supervisor or Manager for continuous improvement
  • Learns implementation of FMI safety program including Lean Card processing and points tracking
  • Learns associated HR related procedures (attendance and performance management) and works alongside Production Supervisor to execute with employees
  • Learns to manage and approve time and attendance including occurrence documentation
  • Supports operational data tracking and entry for weekly operations updates and presentation to leadership as necessary

  • Foundational soft skills demonstrating aptitude for organizational leadership including but not limited to effective communication, empathy, conflict resolution and professionalism
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing environment and shop floor control
  • Understands basic OSHA compliance laws
  • Ability to manage direct reports (up to 10 employees)
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in manufacturing with direct reports and demonstrated performance management

Preferred:

  • 2-4 year Associates or Bachelor’s degree, completed or in progress with intent to complete
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing leadership with direct reports and demonstrated performance management
