FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 


Your role: FMI takes pride in our product making quality one of our top priorities. As the Quality Technician, you will assure consistent quality of production by developing and enforcing good automated manufacturing practice (GAMP) systems; validating processes; and providing documentation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain quality data records, compile information and prepare reports for internal and external customers
  • Perform preliminary review and Material Review Board analysis and disposition of nonconforming material
  • Provide support to manufacturing operations with the review of products and engineering and manufacturing processes
  • Perform product audits in accordance with FMI, our customers and industry standards
  • Perform duties required by the Quality Management System
  • Train inspection (audit) personnel on workmanship standards
  • Apply quality standards for receiving in-process and final inspection in accordance with FMI and contractual requirements
  • Communicate with manufacturing personnel on non-conformances
  • Complete First Article inspections for manufactured items
  • Participate or lead in Lean activities
  • Maintain all housekeeping items and follow all housekeeping procedures
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment

What we need from you:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, overtime and handle multiple/detail-oriented tasks
  • Knowledge of calibration equipment and processes, and AS9100 requirements
  • Prior experience with incoming inspection reviewing supplier first article inspections
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret internal and customer provided blueprints
  • Ability read blueprints, to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Versatile in all aspects of inspection techniques
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
  • Able to complete responsibilities with a sense of urgency and with a professional and quality manner
  • Set a good example of personal integrity and professional work ethic
  • Demonstrated results in communication, resolving conflicts, decisiveness, commitment to company objectives, and establishing motivational work environment
  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn; seek out development activities to improve skills and increase knowledge; learn from other team members and own mistakes
