FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 

Your role: FMI is seeking a dependable, skilled Engineering Technician to join the Manufacturing team! As an Engineering Technician, you'll be working hands-on and will be an essential team member responsible for supporting manufacturing production, maintenance, and facilities equipment and processes.  This will include design input and fabrication of fixtures, components, and custom tools.  As an Engineering Technician, you will also be responsible for assisting with specification and the sourcing of new equipment and production hardware, process and equipment evaluation and troubleshooting, development of manufacturing improvements, and conducting experiments and investigations under the guidance of Engineers. Being an Engineering Technician with FMI also means you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of departments and teams to utilize your experience and develop it further

Job Responsibilities:

• Supporting initiatives from engineering, production maintenance, and manufacturing operations
• Preparing new equipment for operation and providing support during implementation and initial production
• Fabrication or modification of fixtures, tools, jigs, etc. to support equipment and processes
• Working with the maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues
• Providing engineering support to production during equipment trials or process changes
• Following all safety practices for handling materials and operating processes
• Operating with a safety-first attitude, being aware of potential hazards and applying proper care and consideration
• Utilizing computer skills such as Microsoft Office
• Using various forms of PPE will be required at times, such as cartridge respirator, goggles, visors, gloves, aprons, Tyvek suits, etc.
• Participating in root cause analysis investigations as part of a team and communicating findings and results
• Implementing process improvements and contributing to Lean initiatives

What we need from you:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 6+ years of technician level work in a manufacturing environment
• Hands-on industrial experience, such as servicing or assembling mechanical equipment
• Direct experience with basic fabrication methods, welding, machining, material handling
• Ability to use common hand and power tools, and basic precision measurement devices
• Ability to read, interpret, and execute technical documentation including instructions, procedures, drawings, manuals, work orders, production travelers
• Ability to document and revise process procedures and instructions, and clearly markup drawings for revision
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Basic computer skills; Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
• Strong work ethic
• Willingness and desire to pursue relevant technical training to enhance skillset, as needed
• Excellent attention to detail
• Works well individually and as a member of a team

• The anticipated hourly range for this position is $25-$35 dependent on experience
