FMI's Rhode Island facility is focused on textile engineering and manufacturing of 2D woven fabrics, 3D woven preforms, braided materials and resin transfer molded composites. We work with the stiffest, strongest, and lightest fiber in the world including carbon, glass, aramid (kevlar) and ceramic.
Our products are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as NASA's Mars Sample Return mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for US military ground vehicles.
Your role: FMI's Rhode Island facility is seeking a Quality Engineer to support all aspects of the organization including responsibility for assigned programs with close alignment to operations & supply chain. The Quality Engineer will work closely with production and engineering management to develop, maintain, and implement quality standards to ensure they meet applicable customer & internal requirements. This Quality Engineer will also partner with stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle to support investigations and drive implementation of risk mitigation activities aimed at improving the quality of products & processes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent FMI Textiles quality as the point of contact to assigned customers including support of onsite & virtual meetings as well as maintaining responsibility for distribution of data & information
- Coordinate FMI Textiles and supplier quality requirements to ensure proper flow down to vendors
- Assist in identification of supplier related issues &/or qualification of new vendors
- Develop and utilize FMI and FMI Textiles systems to satisfy customer quality requirements including regulatory, certification, and validation systems
- Assist in providing quality support throughout the various gates of FMI Textiles Contracts & Proposal process
- Deploy both proactive & reactive quality tools & principles within the organization including execution of RCCA, PFMEAs, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Flow Diagrams, Manufacturing Quality Plans (MQP), APQP as required
- Ensure proper product sampling, quality control checks, identification, and traceability are in place across the entire manufacturing value stream
- Make recommendations & establish business cases for capital expenditures in support of enhancing the quality of products & processes
- Support the potential rollout of additional applications within FMI’s eQMS incl. proceduralizing internal processes, training and monitoring/support during & after deployment
- Perform reviews on customer & internal drawings; report back to stakeholders on required changes
- Participate in the organization’s configuration management process including initiating, reviewing and dispositioning Engineering Change Notifications
- Support FMI’s QMS including supplier management, auditing & document control IAW AS9100
- Participate &/or lead various RCCA activities in support of internal/customer non-conformances
- Participate in &/or lead Material Review Boards (MRB) meetings as quality engineering representative
- Assists with new facility commissioning incl. understanding customer requirements & converting those into sustainable/repeatable processes that can be deployed across multiple sites
What we need from you:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, materials engineering, or closely related discipline
- 3+ years of relevant experience within a quality environment
- 5+ years of relevant experience within a manufacturing setting or similar
- Familiarity with database usage, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Expertise/experience in working with and meeting customers and/or suppliers requirements
- Demonstrated experience as a team leader in identifying and resolving issues
- Working knowledge of Quality Assurance practices and procedures expertise
Preferred:
- Experience in composites manufacturing and process engineering
- Proficiency in various machining, testing and inspection processes
- ISO 9001/AS 9100/AS13100 certification knowledge
- ASQ Certification CQE, CQT
- Familiarity with utilizing electronic Quality Management System (eQMS) software solutions

- The anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000-$120,000 dependent on experience
