FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 55 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 


Your role: FMI is seeking a proactive, energetic Systems Engineering Program Manager with proven leadership skills to deliver high temperature composite hot structures and thermal protection systems from concept through NPI.  As the Systems Engineering Program Manager, you will be accountable for the overall portfolio of Advanced Programs efforts; alignment, coordination and structured maturation of multiple development and demonstration programs supporting company strategic growth and business plans. The Systems Engineering Program Manager will be expected to interface with the cross-functional project teams to ensure programs are executed within FMI’s gated technology development process and will be responsible for leading the verification of program plans, including baselining as well as program execution within the approved cost, schedule, quality and technical deliverables.  As a leader within the Advanced Programs organization, additional duties will include developing and deploying Technical Project Management processes and tools in collaboration with the Program, Business Development and Manufacturing Engineering teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the analysis of contractual deliverables to establish project scope and engineering requirements
  • Own the Advanced Programs Integrated Master Schedule to drive execution and ensure alignment with department and company strategic objectives
  • Define and manage product life cycle steps and drive projects thru design and development as well as manufacturing execution
  • Proactively manage integrated program risk; monitor individual project risks and ensure mitigation plans align with overall strategy
  • Lead internal program reviews in accordance with FMI standard processes; participate in customer reviews
  • Regularly report to executive leadership as well as the broader organization the performance and significance of the program portfolio
  • Identify and control key program to program interfaces and dependencies
  • Liaise with project technical teams, Quality, Safety, Manufacturing and Operations as well as customers/subcontractors/suppliers to ensure product integrity and manufacturability
  • Promote and contribute to Continuous Process Improvement initiatives

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, business management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CaPM/PMP Certification
  • 8+ years of progressively complex technical and leadership experience in an advanced manufacturing, prototyping or development engineering environment
  • Demonstrated success managing advanced technology development programs throughout the product lifecycle
  • Capable of managing multiple programs simultaneously to ensure proper time phasing of deliverables and alignment with strategic business objectives
  • Able to effectively communicate, influence and deliver across organizational disciplines and levels
  • Experience with IMP/IMS, requirements management, risk management, cost account management and reporting
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management, configuration control and enterprise resource planning systems
  • Energetic, collaborative leader with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Exemplary work ethic and attention to detail
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree with a focus in Systems, Mechanical, Materials or Manufacturing Engineering
  • MBA with an emphasis on NPI
  • Familiarity with advanced materials-based technology development
  • Familiarity with high temperature carbon and ceramic composites
