FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles. 

Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles. 


Your role: FMI is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Master Electrician to join our team! In this role you will perform the installation, maintenance, and repairs of a variety of electrical equipment. As the Master Electrician, you will also perform heavy, physical work, and operate a variety of hand and power tools.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Install and repair electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment
  • Follow electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and electrical and electronic test equipment
  • Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment
  • Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment
  • Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures, using test equipment
  • Replace damaged or broken wires and cables
  • Test malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance staff
  • Assist with plan and layout of wiring with engineering Department
  • Program, calibrate and configure Digital Temperature Controllers
  • Troubleshoot and repair SCR power controllers
  • Document daily work accountabilities and parts usage
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment 

What we need from you:

  • Associates Degree (AS) or equivalent from a two year college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master Electrician License
  • Ability to trouble shoot faulty electronic components and systems
  • Ability to work independently
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems and electrical safety
  • Available for rotation of call-in coverage schedule
  • Industrial electrical/controls/mechanical maintenance experience
  • Wiring and troubleshooting experience with control panels, electric motors, electrical ovens and typical industrial equipment
  • Previous manufacturing experience and/or Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement familiarity is preferred
