FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: FMI is seeking a Facilities Engineer to join their Facilities Team. As the Facilities Engineer, you will participate in the oversight and coordination of building space allocation, layout, facility renovations, optimization and new construction. Maintaining factory layout drawings including equipment locations. Assess project scope and resources requirements; estimating and set project budgets and schedules with clients and engineering/operations support team, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal agency requirements associated with construction and facility management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, installation and commissioning of plant facilities, plant utilities and associated control systems, including schedule coordination
- Facilitate the design and implementation of capital and maintenance projects assigned for the facilities operation
- Direct projects involving building maintenance, repairs and improvements including equipment related to compressed air systems, HVAC systems, energy systems, electrical systems and process water systems. This includes defining the project charter, facilitating meetings, design, design review, investigating and applying engineering principles
- Perform inspections and surveillance of outside contractor work when related to maintaining facilities equipment/building systems
- Provide expertise on matters relating to building code requirements, industry requirements, equipment application, established standards and regulations
- Develop, implement and manage a utility plan to ensure an adequate supply of electrical power, natural gas, compressed air, process water, HVAC, chilled water, etc. and minimize energy usage for effective plant operations
- Inspect buildings and facilities infrastructure to ascertain their condition and state of readiness. Support this effort by documenting the condition, deficiencies, recommendations and estimated cost of repairs
- Support the development and updates to a master plan for all facilities and for space planning; and prepare and deliver presentations to all levels of management on the best way to renovate, reuse and manage exiting and/or new space
- Formulate and implement preventative maintenance programs for utility systems, equipment and building maintenance to increase uptime and ensure repeatable operation
- Develop standard processes for building maintenance including building grounds
- Liaison with plumbers, HVAC, electricians, and other construction professional to maintain and upgrade building and grounds
- Interface with Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering on large projects
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or Technology.
- A minimum of 2 years of Facilities or Plant Engineering experience
- Well-developed problem solving, analytical, communication, organization, troubleshooting, and computer skills.
- Proficient with Solid works and exposure to AutoCAD and Microsoft Suite
- Must be able to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledgeable with the fundamentals of equipment and maintenance with Reliability Engineering Concepts
- Experience with Project Management & Construction Principles
Preferred:
- 3-5 years of Facilities or Plant Engineering experience preferred
- Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Building Automation Systems experience preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt), preferred
- Working experience in Facilities Operations
