FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: FMI is seeking a hands-on and detail oriented Testing Technician to join their team! You will be responsible for working with design, manufacturing and testing of advanced composites and the fabrication of high temperature insulation and industrial materials. As the Testing Technician, you will support our materials testing laboratory team to contribute to the success of the business in the aerospace and defense market
Job Responsibilities:
- Hands-on technical support and process control
- Work with engineers and senior technicians in evaluation and analysis of materials and processes
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to solve problems
- Able to change testing fixtures and measurement devices to meet specifications
- Recording and entry of engineering and process data into datasheets or database
- Perform equipment and instrument calibrations per standard operating procedures
- Become qualified to prepare and conduct NDE, thermal property evaluations and destructive mechanical tests
- Utilize Excel to record and analyze data for evaluation and analysis
- Maintain Quality documents on a continuous schedule to meet ISO standards
- Maintain and improve safety and quality standards
- Writing and updating of technical, manufacturing and process specifications
- Interpret customer specifications and apply them to testing results
- Work in a team based environment; and self-starter
- Maintain a clean and safe workstation
What we need from you:
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines, overtime and handle multiple/detail-oriented task
- Excellent math skills
- High attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Applications
- Ability to complete responsibilities with a sense of urgency and with a professional and quality manner
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret provided drawings
- Versatile in all various precision tool inspection techniques
- Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
Preferred:
- Associate’s Degree in engineering discipline
- 3+ years related experience or relevant training
- Experience in aerospace/high-temperature composites industry, composites design, and finite element analysis
