FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: FMI is seeking an X-Ray Technician who works with design, manufacturing and testing of advanced composites and the fabrication of high temperature insulation and industrial materials to support Quality Non-Destructive Testing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operate radiologic equipment to produce images of the production parts for diagnostic purposes
- Review and evaluate developed x-rays to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes
- Works with engineers and senior technicians in evaluation and analysis of materials and processes
- Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination
- Appropriately handle hazardous waste per hazardous waste procedures when required
- Able to change testing fixtures and measurement devices to meet specifications
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on x-ray imaging equipment
- Maintain Quality documents on a continuous schedule to meet ISO standards
- Maintain all housekeeping items and follow all housekeeping procedures
- Interpret customer specifications and apply them to testing results
- Follows all safety procedures and maintains a safe work environment
- Work in a team-based environment, and self-starter
- Maintain a clean and safe workstation
What we need from you:
- Minimum 3 years’ related experience and/or relevant training
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines, overtime and handle multiple/detail-oriented task
- Excellent math skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to complete responsibilities with a sense of urgency and with a professional and quality manner
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret provided blueprints
- Versatile in all various precision tool inspection techniques
- Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
Preferred:
- Associates degree in Radiography
- Previous manufacturing experience
- Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement
